[ARCHIVED] Keep Victoria Beautiful awards teams with most trash, most unusual find

Keep Victoria Beautiful volunteers took part in a record-setting cleanup Earth Day weekend—and they found some interesting things along the way.

City of Victoria Community Appearance Manager Christy Youker announced awards for the cleanup at the May 3 City Council meeting. Youker plans to continue awarding volunteers as a way of bringing attention to their hard work and encouraging friendly competition during the cleanups.

Most bags per person: Team Five

Seven people picked up 18 bags of trash along Loop 463 between John Stockbauer Drive and Salem Drive. The team was led by Rick Madrid.

Most unusual item: Boxing glove

A child in a work vest in a field of flowers holds a boxing glove.The glove was found by the Colony Creek Neighborhood Association team led by Mandy Lingle. This team picked up trash along Loop 463 near Victoria East High School.

Save the date

The next citywide cleanup will be Sept. 24. The next neighborhood cleanup will be Nov. 12 in the north part of the Silver City neighborhood.
