[ARCHIVED] Municipal Court to host first “outreach docket” at Salvation Army shelter

Residents who are unable to attend traditional Municipal Court dockets will have a chance to resolve their warrants when the court hosts its first outreach docket 9 a.m.-12 p.m. April 4 at the Salvation Army shelter, 1304 N. Louis St.

Municipal Court Judge Vanessa Heinold and Court Administrator Tiffany Totah will bring a laptop to look up information about cases as well as court forms that residents may need to complete. If a resident’s case needs to be reviewed by a prosecutor, they will arrange to send the resident additional documents.

If a resident is unable to pay fines in full, other options may be available, including payment plans, fine reduction and community service.

The court created the outreach docket program as part of its ongoing efforts to expand access to justice for underserved residents.

Tiffany Totah“If a person doesn’t have a stable place to live, they probably won’t get our notifications in the mail, and they might not be able to get text messages from the court either,” Totah said. “We want to serve residents better by bringing resources to them so they can resolve their cases.”

The court’s next outreach docket will be 9 a.m.-12 p.m. May 6 at Mid-Coast Family Services, 2010 N. Navarro St., Suite A.
