The City of Victoria has temporarily amended some of its financial policies to accommodate residents who were impacted by the winter freeze.

Exterior of the Development Services office with a sign indicating the maximum occupancy is 5 peopleResidents whose February water usage is higher than normal because of the freeze may contact the Utility Billing Office to request an adjusted bill. Upon request, the Utility Billing Office will average residents’ water usage for the previous two months (December and January) to determine the February usage amount.

This change will be reflected on residents’ March bills. Residents with higher-than-normal water usage outside of February due to leaks or other issues are encouraged to contact the Utility Billing Office to discuss accommodations.

The City is also temporarily waiving fees to connect and disconnect water service for plumbing repairs. The City encourages residents to fix their leaks by March 26.

To request an adjusted water bill or to have water service connected or disconnected, call the Utility Billing Office at 361-485-3400; email csr@victoriatx.gov; or visit 700 Main Center, Suite 110. Residents may also contact the billing office to request an extension on their water bills or set up a payment plan.

No late fees will be charged for customers’ February water bills.

Because of high water usage in February, the City this year will not implement its usual practice of calculating residents’ sewer bills based on usage during the winter months. Sewer charges will remain the same as they were prior to the winter freeze.

In addition, the City Council on Feb. 23 voted to waive permitting fees for homeowners with a homestead exemption performing storm-related repair work on their homesteads. As always, residents will not need permits for minor repairs such as replacing a section of broken pipe.

For questions about permitting, call 361-485-3320 or email permits@victoriatx.gov. To schedule an inspection, call 361-485-3333. For more information and to view and print permitting forms, visit www.victoriatx.gov and click on “Permits.”
