The City of Victoria Parks & Recreation is inviting schools, churches, clubs and other groups to be part of keeping Victoria beautiful through the department’s new Adopt-A-Park program.

The new program is modeled after similar programs that have been successful in other cities. Volunteers will not be required to move bulky items or perform general maintenance; instead, they will focus on collecting litter and improving the appearance of Victoria’s parks.

Lisa Wube“Community pride has been an important component of the City’s Keep Victoria Beautiful and Growing Victoria initiatives, and we wanted to give residents another way to be a part of improving their community,” said Parks & Recreation Director Lisa Wube. “With the help of our dedicated parks maintenance staff and our volunteers, we are excited to continue improving our parks system for the enjoyment of all of our residents.”

How it works

Parks & Recreation will provide trash bags, safety vests and other supplies to be used during the cleanups. Staff will also collect filled trash bags after each cleanup is completed.

Adopters are asked to clean their chosen park once per month for a minimum of one year.

Residents of all ages are welcome to participate in the program. Those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

After the group has completed a six-month trial period, Parks & Recreation will post a sign at the park recognizing the group’s adoption of the park.
