Summer Fun Fest Kick-Off

The Victoria Public Library will kick off this year’s Summer Fun Fest 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 1 at the library. More than 30 community organizations will provide goodies and share information about their resources.
During the event, the library will host a T-shirt bag craft, where residents will be able to make their own book bags out of T-shirts. T-shirts will be provided while supplies last, or residents may bring their own gently used T-shirts from home.
Reading challenges for kids and adults
PHOTO #3: Residents who participate in the Victoria Public Library’s summer reading challenges can be entered into drawings for the prizes shown here.
Readers of all ages can join the library’s summer reading challenge for a chance to win prizes.
Children can take part in the chapter book challenge or the picture book challenge, earning points for reading a chapter book for 15 minutes or reading a picture book. The points will count toward entries in the prize drawings for each age category.
Meanwhile, the library will challenge adult readers to read books set in different U.S. states as part of the “armchair traveler” reading challenge. Every five books read will count as one entry into the adult prize drawing.
Local businesses and organizations donated the prizes, with additional funding provided by the Friends of the Victoria Public Library.
Residents can pick up their reading logs at the library starting June 1.

Also during the summer, the library will host a craft event at 10 a.m. every Friday at the Victoria Mall.
