Residents have until Nov. 3 to provide comments on the draft version of the Active Transportation Master Plan, a long-range plan that will chart a path for the City to improve its transportation network for people who walk and bike in Victoria.

Developing the plan

Alliance Transportation Group, the consultant for the master plan, conducted a survey earlier this year to gather input about Victoria’s transportation network. The survey included questions about residents’ walking or biking habits, and it also included an interactive map where residents could point out areas that need improvement.

The consultant also looked at crash statistics, demographic information and other data to identify areas where improvements might be needed.

In addition, local nonprofits, government agencies and Victoria ISD were invited to stakeholder meetings to discuss the needs of the residents they serve.

Based on the data gathered during the development phase, the consultant created a draft version of the Active Transportation Master Plan. The draft can be viewed at www.victoriatx.gov/atmp

The draft plan includes suggestions for adding or updating bicycle and pedestrian facilities, including sidewalks and various styles of bike lanes or shared-use paths. It also includes a list of grant programs and other potential funding sources for the projects listed in the plan.

Comments on the plan can be mailed to City of Victoria’s Development Services Department, P.O. BOX 1758, Victoria, TX 77901-1758 or emailed to mbergeron@victoriatx.gov, esoll@emailatg.com and jfulgham@victoriatx.gov.

Comments should be titled “Public Input: COV Draft ATMP” and should include the sender’s full name and address.

Comments must be received by Nov. 3 to be taken into consideration.

What’s next

An updated draft of the plan will be brought to the City Council in November for potential adoption.
