The Support Services Division is charged with providing logistical support and technical assistance to other areas of the Police Department. Support Services is responsible for the purchasing of supplies and equipment for the department, maintenance of existing equipment and the sale of abandoned vehicles.
The Support Services Captain oversees the daily operations and that office is located in the City Hall Building at 105 W. Juan Linn Street.
Requests for Off-Duty Police Officers for security work are coordinated through this division. Persons wanting information may contact the Chief's Administrative Assistant at 361-485-3714 regarding off-duty work.
These units of the Police Department fall under the Support Services Captain:
Recruitment and Training Unit - Provides extensive relevant training to all VPD employees from the time of employment and throughout their career. The Training Unit is also responsible for the recruitment function of the department which includes testing, hiring and follow-up events involved in the recruitment process.
Records Section - Receives, records and stores information pertaining to police activities and retrieves and distributes this information to authorized personnel and to citizens through Open Records requests.
Telecommunications Section - The VPD Telecommunications Section is overseen by a civilian Public Safety Communications Manager and consists of 911 Operators and Call Takers that answer calls for service for the City of Victoria Police and Fire Departments. The Telecommunications Operators then dispatch these calls for service through our radio system. Telecommunications Crew Leaders supervise each shift of operators.
