Novosad Named Director of Victoria Convention and Visitors Bureau
City Manager Jesús A. Garza has announced the reorganization of the Victoria Convention and Visitors Bureau intended to better support economic development efforts in the City.
Effective this month, the Convention and Visitors Bureau now directly reports to the City Manager’s Office. Previously, the Bureau was part of the City’s communications department. As part of CVB’s restructuring, Garza said Joel Novosad, who has led CVB for almost three years, as a manager will now be the director of the department.
“I’m honored to serve as the Director of the City of Victoria’s Convention & Visitors Bureau and look forward to continue leading what is now our own department within the City,” Novosad said. “Destination development, new marketing strategies, and community partnerships will be key components of promoting Victoria as an overnight destination to the leisure, convention, and sports markets.”
Garza explained the restructuring is part of an overall plan to create an increased emphasis on economic development within the City Manager’s Office.
“The Convention and Visitors Bureau plays a vital role in creating a vibrant economy based on tourism, business travelers and day visitors to the community,” he said. “As manager, Joel implemented many marketing projects and has initiated programs to make our community a welcoming destination for visitors. As Director he will continue to spearhead ways to better leverage our unique history and offerings to improve the visitor experience.”
Novosad earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences. Novosad has been employed with the City of Victoria since 2011. He began his career with CVB as the Tourism Services Representative and became manager of the Bureau in 2016. The title change to Director reflects the reorganization of the Bureau to become a standalone department in the City.
