If you happen to be driving in the area of Navarro and the Loop next week, you’ll likely see TxDOT contractor crews scoping out the site of a blossoming beautification project.
The City of Victoria announced last May that it had entered into an agreement with TxDOT to help fund a beautification project on Loop 463 at Navarro Street and John Stockbauer Drive. The project will build on existing City of Victoria flowerbeds by adding new beds and landscaping.

Because of the project’s central location, the City worked with TxDOT to ensure that it would have an eye-catching, entryway-style design. The project will include:
- Six new flowerbeds, two of which will be planted on a raised sandstone structure matching the City’s entryway signs
- A mix of native plants and perennial flowering plants
- Shade trees, fruiting trees, ornamental trees and additional plantings below the trees
- Decorative lighting
The project was put up for bid in fall 2021, and it is expected to finish in May.
The City will contribute $200,000 toward the cost of the $516,000 project. TxDOT will maintain the landscaping for one year. After that, the City will assume responsibility for maintenance.
The project is part of TxDOT’s Green Ribbon Program, which aims to improve air quality by adding greenery to highways. For more information, contact TxDOT at 800-558-9368 or txdot.gov.
