Keep Victoria Beautiful and partners host Queen City cleanup

From left, Victoria Police Department Capt. Jason Turner and Victoria Housing Authority Public Housing Associate Jessica Ramos assist a group of volunteers Oct. 21 during the Queen City Neighborhood Cleanup hosted by Keep Victoria Beautiful. About 130 volunteers collected 70 bags of litter and helped residents move brush and bulky trash to their curbs for pickup. The City of Victoria Environmental Services picked up 7.15 tons of bulky items from 105 homes and 6.14 tons of brush from 36 homes, as well as 21 old tires. The Victoria Fire Department administered five flu shots and installed 24 smoke detectors, and staff helped residents sign up for future installations. Garden-Ville applied and distributed 150 bags of Coastal Grow compost for trees in the neighborhood. Sponsors for the event were Appliance Pro, Armstrong Warehouse & Transfer, Del Papa Distributing, Garden-Ville, Lowe’s, The Box Coffee Bar and The Wade & Carter Show.
