The Victoria Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Division is recognizing the creativity of local students who are using their artistic skills to raise awareness about fire safety in the kitchen.

The fire department hosted its annual poster contest in honor of Fire Prevention Week, inviting students to create posters based on this year’s theme: “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”

The winners at each grade level are as follows:

  • 1st grade: Luke Temple, Nursery Elementary School
  • 2nd grade: McKenzie Heller, Trinity Episcopal School
  • 3rd grade: John Alebis, Trinity Episcopal School
  • 4th grade: Luke Ortiz, Dudley Elementary School
  • 5th grade: Shealyn Carver, Mission Valley Elementary School

Each winner received a trophy, two gift cards and a goodie bag. The winning posters will be displayed in the Fire Marshal’s Office for one year.

Sponsors for the contest were Citgo Petroleum Corporation, Victoria Fire and Safety and Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
