The Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining the water and wastewater infrastructure and supply for the City of Victoria and for the enforcement of regulations governing the industrial pretreatment of wastewater being discharged from area businesses.

The department is made up of several smaller divisions which perform specific tasks.
