Procedure For Becoming A Licensed
Victoria Police Officer
Application for cadet police officers positions can be filled out at the City of Victoria Human Resources Department, located at 105 W. Juan Linn, Victoria, Texas between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, during a period of active recruitment. See Human Resources Job Listings Page for openings.
The selection process for employment by the department is divided into several steps. An applicant must complete one step prior to advancing to the next step. All steps should be completed within 90 days.
Applicants must meet the following requirements for further processing:
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standard and Education Requirements
- Must not have been discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions.
- Must not have had a license issued by the Commission previously revoked.
- Must not be on probation for a criminal offense above the grade of Class C Misdemeanor.
- Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor offense of a grade of "Class A".
- Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor offense of a grade of "Class B" or its equivalent within the last ten (10) years.
- Must not have been convicted of the offense of Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence of Drugs within the last ten (10) years.
- Must not have been convicted at any time of a felony offense as defined by Texas Government Code, Chapter 415.
Physical Requirements
- 21 years or over (18 years with 60 academic semester hours, college credit or two years military service)
- Good physical condition.
Educational Requirements
- High school graduate (from an accredited or approved school) or a GED and 12 college hours.
Required Background Documents
Certain documents will be needed from each applicant in order to continue through the process. It is highly recommended that applicants locate and organize these documents as soon as possible. Original documents are required. Once copies are made the originals will be returned except for credit reports

- Official College Transcripts (no copies)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Military Discharge Papers (DD-214, if applicable)
- Marriage License
- Divorce Papers
- Sealed Credit Report
- Basic Certificate
- Peace Officer License ( or proof of passing examination)
- Any Certificates and Degrees
Police Applicant Qualifications
Patrols the City and responds to emergency and non-emergency requests and enforces all City ordinances and state and federal laws. High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of the Victoria Police Department hiring process. Must be currently certified as a TCLEOSE Peace Officer. Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license with driving record that meets City guidelines. A review of your credit report is required and must meet City guidelines. To apply for this position, you must complete a City of Victoria Police Department application packet (which includes the City of Victoria standard application plus additional information which is required for consideration for any police department position). Packets are available from the Human Resources Office at 105 W. Juan Linn.
Victoria Police Department Hiring Process Overview
The hiring process for Police Officers, Police Cadets and Telecommunications Operators (TCO’S) is essentially the same. Entry tests will be administered for Police Officer and TCO positions. The following is a basic overview of the process. This process is subject to change.
