Why not consider attending the Victoria Police Department's Civilian Police Academy?
Since 1994 the Victoria Police Department has afforded its citizens an opportunity to experience our department in a fun and unique way. Through the Civilian Academy, citizens are exposed to many facets of law enforcement that have never been offered to citizens before.
Class members attend classes on Tuesday evenings for 11 weeks, and 2 Saturday mornings. Topics of interest are taught by members of the department for the purposes of enlightening attendees to how their police department works. Many of the classes provide "hands-on" experiences that provide an element of excitement and participation. Subjects include, traffic law, baton & handcuffing demonstrations, K9 handling's and search techniques, simulated building searches, simulated traffic stops, plus a field trip to the Victoria County Sheriffs Office. There is a firearms course and attendees even get to ride with a veteran officer. The class culminates with an impressive graduation ceremony.
Classes are held once a year. Thanks to the financial support of local businesses, there is no charge for those selected to attend. Application may be made at the main police department, at the Crime Prevention Office (located at Victoria Mall), or via this website. Class size in limited and classes fill quickly, so it is recommended that you apply soon.
