Our mission is to prevent and reduce juvenile delinquency and to protect the public by holding youth accountable for criminal behavior and by providing reformation opportunities. This mission is accomplished through investigation and administration of justice as a service to the community so that children can reach their full potential, victims of crime are restored, and so the community can function in the best interest of children. |

The Juvenile Unit investigates various crimes involving juvenile victims and offenders. The unit is comprised of detectives who are supervised by the Lieutenant of the Special Assignment Section of Investigations. Juvenile detectives are trained in interview and interrogation skills and have specialized training in dealing with juveniles. They often work closely with many other detectives in the Investigations Division. Some of the offenses assigned to this unit include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Physical and Sexual Abuse
- Abandonment, Endangering and Neglect
- Internet Solicitation
- Child Pornography
- Missing and Runaway Juveniles
- Property Crimes
- Forgery and Identity Theft
