Victoria Police Department

Professional Services

The Professional Services Section of the Victoria Police Department includes both Professional Standards and the Training & Recruitment Unit

Professional Standards is staffed with a Lieutenant who is charged with a variety of responsibilities which includes:

Policy Development

The Victoria Police Department currently has over 150 separate General Orders and Section Directives which guide our personnel in proper procedure.  As our community and departmental needs change throughout the years, policies change also.  The VPD has a system in which all policies are reviewed at least once a year by all the supervisors throughout the department.

Our policies range from dress and appearance requirements to the procedures for handling a variety of criminal and traffic related situations.

Review Board

The Professional Services Lieutenant is also responsible for coordinating our police department’s Review Board.

The Review Board meets at the discretion of the Chief of Police for the purpose of considering department employees for promotion, commendations, and transfers.  The Board also considers prospective employees for employment.

The Review Board includes appointees by the Chief of Police as well as employee peer representation which comes from annual elections in which civilian employees and officers of the rank of Sergeant and below can apply to be a Review Board member.
