Agenda (Acrobat Reader Required)

The city's Citizens Academy is a program designed to educate residents about city services, improve communications between city government and its residents, and to encourage residents to participate in city government.

The Citizens Academy is a crash course in all aspects of city operations. The course is a series of two-hour and fifteen minute presentations, tours and demonstrations by city departments held each Thursday for nine weeks. These presentations cover the basics departmental functions and goals. The presentations are followed by a Q & A session. A meal and drink are provided at each session.

The Citizens Academy is scheduled each Thursday evening from January 7, 2010 through March 4, 2010. Most Citizens Academy sessions will be held in Room 204 at 700 Main Center from 6:00 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. Other sessions will be held at city facilities including the Victoria Public Library, the Surface Water Treatment Plant, Police headquarters and Fire Station #1.

We accept up to 20 area residents as academy participants. Preference is given to residents who live within the city limits of Victoria. Participants must fill out an application to be considered for the academy (the application is available on the city web site (www.victoriatx.org), or by calling the Public Information Office at 485-3109). Any residents interested in learning about city operations or who have expressed opinions about city services, operations or governing are invited to attend.

If you have any questions about the Academy, or want to recommend someone as a participant, contact the Public Information Office at 485-3109 or 485-3110.
