POWER FOODS?

Intro

This page is designed to give little helpful hints and interesting facts about food nutrition to help you with the battle against weight gain.

Healthy Hint #1- (1) can of soda has approximately 150 cal.  If an individual only drank (2) sodas a day, (7) days a week, that's (56) sodas a month.  A person would gain 2.5 pounds in one month.

Healthy Hint #2- By cutting one regular soda a day or substituting it with a calorie free drink, you can cut your weight gain from soda in half.  Diet sodas or soda "zero" is a great way to cut the calories and still get your soda fix.

Healthy Hint #3- Almonds are a great source of nutrients, but (1) oz of almonds has 164 cal.  Almonds and other nuts are good, but when focusing on weight loss, keep the servings small.

Healthy Hint #4- (1) oz of regular potato chips has approximately 150 cal, but (1) oz of baked potato chips has only 110 cal.  Making a switch from regular to baked potato chips can really be beneficial when watching calories.

Healthy Hint #5- A regular hamburger with cheese, mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles; a large order of fries and a large soda have approximately 1550 cal.  For a person on a 1500 - 2000 calorie diet may want to decide if this lunch is a good decision.

Healthy Hint #6- As the summer heat rises, it is important to replace the fluids you lose from perspiration.  An active person should be consuming 10-12 glasses of water instead of the normal 8 glasses.

Health Hint #7- (1) 5 oz cup of cooked wheat pasta contains 176 cal, where a 5 oz cup of cooked regular pasta contains 224 cal.  Switching from regular to wheat pasta could cut 45-50 cal.
