Lower Speed Limit near Zac Lentz Parkway Takes Effect Next Week;
New Traffic Light on HWY 87 at Conti Lane Will be Operational on September 6.
(VICTORIA, TEXAS) The City will reduce the speed limit from 70 miles per hour to 55 mph on Highway 87 from the city limits to Zac Lentz Parkway next week. TXDOT employees will begin installing the new signs on Monday, August 30. The new speed limit goes into effect as soon as all the signs are all installed, which could be as early as Tuesday.
The City is reducing the speed limit after reviewing the speed study conducted by TXDOT after the traffic light was installed on Tropical Drive. The reduced speed zone includes the half-mile from Zac Lentz Parkway to Tropical Drive and the quarter-mile from Tropical Drive to the city limit. The results of the speed study indicated that 55 mph is the appropriate maximum speed for this section of HWY 87. Permanent advanced warning signs will be installed and a temporary message board announcing the reduced speed limit will be in place when the new speed limit takes effect.
Another traffic signal on HWY 87 at Conti Lane should be operational on Monday, September 6. TXDOT will perform a speed study in that area to determine if further speed reduction is needed.
