Laurent Street Reduced to One-Lane Southbound for
Three Months as Utility Improvements are Installed
(VICTORIA, TEXAS) The City will reduce Laurent Street to one lane of traffic, southbound traffic only, between Airline Road and Red River Street on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 to install new underground sewer lines and drainage utility lines.
This traffic restriction will remain in effect for approximately three months, weather permitting. Drivers can expect major delays in the work zone and should use alternate routes to get around the work zone if possible.
Also beginning on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, the City will periodically close one block sections of Laurent Street between Rio Grande Drive (Bus. 59) and Red River Street at night for the installation of new water lines. These closures will begin after 9:00 p.m. and re-open prior to 6:00 a.m., to allow two – way traffic to flow unimpeded from Rio Grande Drive (Bus. 59) to Red River Street during daytime hours. These closures are expected to occur periodically for approximately two to three weeks, weather permitting.
This construction is part of the $9,885,800 Laurent Street Reconstruction Project – Ph I (Bus 59 to Airline Road). The contractor performing the work is Triple B Services, Inc. from Huffman, Texas. This project will take about 18 months, however, the contractor plans to mobilize additional personnel to expedite the project and reduce the construction time and inconvenience to the public.
