Officials Monitoring Tropical Storm Alex;
Residents Urged to Monitor this Gulf Storm
(VICTORIA, TEXAS) The Victoria Emergency Management Office is monitoring the approach of Tropical Storm Alex. Local emergency officials urge residents to monitor this hurricane closely as tropical storm force winds could hit the area as early as Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service has issued a Texas hurricane watch for Baffin Bay south to the Rio Grande River as Tropical Storm Alex moves northwesterly in the Gulf of Mexico.
Local retailers have been notified and should have supplies on hand for fueling, safety kits and hurricane preparations. Anyone on medications should get a 30-day supply during hurricane season.
Victoria emergency officials recommend that:
- All residents should create a hurricane evacuation plan and follow that plan if Tropical Storm Alex increases in strength and approaches the middle Texas coast. Residents should arrange their own evacuation transportation and be prepared to evacuate if a mandatory evacuation is necessary.
- Any residents with special needs should dial 2-1-1 and register with the State Emergency Office.
- Residents should fill up their vehicles with gasoline today. This allows gas retailers time to refill their tanks later this week so there is not a last-minute rush for fuel if an evacuation order is given.
- Although evacuation seems unlikely for now, any residents with medications, pets, elderly family members or other needs should make arrangements now to be able to evacuate safely. Be sure to have a 30-day supply of medications.
- Residents are asked not to call 9-1-1 except for emergency situations. Do not call 9-1-1 for storm information or updates.
- Residents should monitor local news outlets for the latest developments on Tropical Storm Alex.
