Residents Will Begin Receiving Recycling Carts on January 3
(VICTORIA, Texas) - City of Victoria residents will begin receiving their 96-gallon green and yellow automated recycling containers beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Darryl Lesak, Environmental Services Assistant Director, says it will take up to three weeks to deliver the carts to approximately 20,000 residents who have water and garbage collection services with the City. The curbside recycling program is only available at this time for residential customers. Future plans to expand the program to include businesses and apartment complexes are being discussed.
The curbside residential recycling program officially starts on February 6, 2012. Recycling will be picked-up every other week. There will be 10 recycling routes/areas and residents will be receiving information about the day of the week their recycling will be collected. Recycling will be collected on a different day from residents’ normal trash pick-up.
Now that City residents will have a curbside recycling program, the Huvar Recycling Center will close on Saturday, February 4, 2012. Residents who recycle frequently can request an additional recycling cart(s) for an extra $5 monthly fee.
The single-stream recycling program allows residents to mix recyclable paper, plastic, metals, cardboard and glass in one bin. The following are examples of items that will not be accepted: Styrofoam, electronics, ceramics, dishes, yard waste, motor oil containers, light bulbs, hazardous waste, window glass, mirrors and trash. A more extensive list is available at http://www.victoriatx.org/environmental/recycling.asp.
