Lessons Learned

·      Be flexible

·      Always have a plan B, C, D…

·      Keep records of raw material diverted-processed

·      One person that represents each entity

·      Start small and think big

·      Equipment operators all work for one entity

·      If there are issues, bring them to the table

·      One entity that can buy parts quickly

·      Always include the other partners in applications

·      Be generous with surplus mulch

·      Keep several smaller windrows vs. a big pile of mulch

·      Look for contaminates that damage equipment

·      30 yard open top dumpsters, great for hauling

·      Promotional opportunities; “Zero Waste Lunch”

·      Community projects: “Christmas Tree Recycling”

·      Celebrate your success
