Name the Compost

In Victoria 40% of trash is comprised of yard waste including tree trimmings, leaves, grass and clippings.  The City of Victoria and Texas Landfill Management will open a new composting facility opening in spring 2008.  The composting facility will offer the Victoria community a natural method to reduce the amount of yard waste placed in the landfill and to recycle yard waste into organic, environmentally friendly nutrients for gardens and flower beds.  Compost produced at the facility will be packaged and sold locally.

Contest Rules

Anyone may register to win!

Victoria residents including individuals, groups, schools and businesses are invited to nominate a name for their locally produced compost product.  The selected name will be the official brand used on all packaging of the product. 

Selection Criteria

The name selected for Victoria’s compost product should reflect local or Texas history, gardening or environmental values.  Names can be rhymes, alliterations or just plain fun!  Judges will select winning names based upon 25% creativity, 25% amusing, 25% originality and 25% cleverness.  In the event that any one of the winning names has been submitted by multiple entrants, sponsors shall randomly choose one entrant from among the duplicate entries received and that entrant shall be the winner.  For example, Austin, Texas has named its compost product “Dillo Dirt” in honor of the armadillo.  San Antonio’s compost product is called “Alamo Gro”.

Winners

Individual winners will receive recognition including $250.00 cash and 1 ton of free compost.  Winners will be notified via email on February 5th, 2008.

Prizes are non-transferable. No prize substitution or cash equivalent allowed except as provided herein. All income taxes on prize are the responsibility of the winner. If prize is returned as undeliverable the prize will be forfeited.

Submission of an entry grants Sponsors the right to use, publish, adapt, assign, edit, dispose of, and/or modify the submitted compost product name in any way, in commerce and in any and all media worldwide, without limitation or compensation to the entrant, and entrant may be required to sign a release to that effect. Submission of an entry further constitutes the entrant's consent to irrevocably assign and transfer to the Sponsors any and all rights, title and interest in and to the proposed compost product name, including but not limited to all intellectual property rights therein. The winning name may be used, at the sole discretion of the Sponsors, as the official name of the compost product, but Sponsors are under no obligation to use the winning name in this or any other way.  By entering, entrants acknowledge compliance with these Contest Rules, including all eligibility requirements.  Entrants hereby release Sponsors and its advertising and promotion agencies, and all of their respective employees, directors, officers, shareholders, agents, successors and assigns (collectively "Releasees"), from any claims, losses, actions, or damages, whether actual, incidental or consequential, arising out of or relating to entrant's participation in this promotion, or the use or misuse of any prize, or participation in prize-related activities, including but not limited to travel related thereto. By accepting prize, winner(s) grant Sponsors the right to use winner(s) name, likeness and biographical information for advertising, publicity, promotional and other purposes in commerce and in any media worldwide without limitation or additional compensation.
