Household Hazardous Waste
Many consumer products contain chemicals that may be hazardous to human health or the environment if improperly used, stored or disposed. Unfortunately, household chemicals are frequently washed down drains, poured on the ground outside, or thrown in the trash where they ultimately pose risks to human health and the environment. Improperly disposing of household chemicals may start fires, explode, or react in the trash collection trucks, often injuring workers.
The City of Victoria is proud to introduce At Your Door Special Collection, a new residential service offered by Waste Management to provide year-round HHW collections for our residents. This home pickup program for Household Hazardous Waste is available for every city resident and is a very convenient way to properly dispose of many hazardous materials as well as electronic waste
How does it Work?
1) To participate, you must contact the Call Center (1-800-449-7587) to set up a collection appointment.
The Call Center operators will guide you through the steps toward a safe and successful collection. You will be asked several questions, including your address and the type and amount of materials available for collection. You will be provided a convenient collection date and information about where to place the HHW kit for collection A kit will be sent to your home in plenty of time for you to gather and pack your materials. You can also visit http://www.wmatyourdoor.com/public-access/lookup-collection-availability-in-your-area.aspx to complete an online request.
2) Preparing for collection

3) HHW material is collected
On the scheduled date, the customer service technician will collect materials directly from your home. They will sort and pack the materials for proper transportation, recycling, and disposal. Participants will recieve a postage-paid survey card to complete and mail back to help track the program.
4) You have more material than will fit into the Kit?
Don't Worry! Remember, this service is available year-round. Just schedule another collection! Small quantities may be combined with your neighbors. Our Call Center will be happy to explain your options.
