Geographic Information System (GIS)
A Geographic Information System, or GIS, is a computer system that combines digital maps with data that describes features on a map. GIS is a collection of layers that can be linked together by geography. Each layer has a theme showing a different type of information allowing the user to better understand how it all interrelates.
Used almost daily by the City, the real estate community and others, this technology is a very powerful query and analysis tool that provides for improved decision-making.
Aerial photography, property lines, building structures, utilities, streets, property ownership, etc. are just a few of the items that can be displayed.
With GIS you can display spatial information in maps, charts, or tables; investigate patterns, relationships, and details about places at different scales, and perform statistical analyses.
