Downtown Victoria & Historic Preservation

The Victoria of today is a modern city, but one which has not lost its small town atmosphere. Victoria's rich and unique historic past can be experienced through its Downtown.

Concept for Intersection Improvements
   Main and Constitution Streets

  • Demolition Delay - Demolition permits for historic structures are automatically stayed for 60 days to allow interested parties to explore alternatives to demolition.  This delay applies to any structure built prior to 1950 and located within one of the Historic Districts; any property recorded as a Texas Historical Landmark or listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

    • Current Properties Under Review:  None

  • Historic Districts - On April 3, 2007 the City Council adopted two historic districts; the Original Townsite Historic District and the Victoria Heights Historic District.  The Nine Rivers Historic District was created on September 7, 2010.  The placement of manufactured and industrialized housing is prohibited within the historic districts.

  • Preservation Incentive Program - Established to enhance our historic resources, the program provides grant assistance for facade restoration and residential conversion of upper floors.  The grant requires a 50/50 match with a maximum grant of $5,000 per property. No grant funds are available at this time.
