The Victoria Police Department Training Unit consists of one Sergeant, two Senior Police Officers, and a Recruitment Coordinator.  The Training Unit provides extensive relevant training to all VPD employees from the time of employment and throughout their career. 

The Training Unit must ensure that the officers and other employees of the department receive the training required by VPD Policy, the City of Victoria, State of Texas and any other regulatory authorities.  The unit closely monitors the progress of new officers from the Basic Police Academy and during the Field Training Program before allowing the officer to complete probation.

The Training Unit is also responsible for the recruitment function of the department which includes testing, hiring and follow up events involved in the recruitment process.

  • The VPD Recruitment / Training Unit will conduct testing periodically, while this posting remains open.
  • Prior to testing and interviews the following will be checked: Driver’s License Criminal History, etc.
  • Also, prior to testing and interviews the applicant must complete the following:

Typing and Spelling Test must be completed at Texas Workforce Solutions – 120 S. Main St., Victoria. This may be taken in other cities.Contact Officer David Brogger at 361-485-3799 for questions.

 

  • Selected applicants will be invited to testing and interviews in Victoria, by invitation only. This will consist of:

Written Testing          Physical Ability          Review Board Interviews

 

  •  Background Investigations begin following all testing.

o Credit Check may occur before Testing and Review Board Interviews.

If not, the Credit Check will occur before the Background Investigation begins.

  • The following occur after the background is complete:

o Chief’s Interviews

o Chief makes contingent Job Offer

o A tentative hire date will be given to allow for two week notices, etc.

Note: We reserve the right to test and interview candidates throughout the process as deemed necessary.
