Captain J. Mark Jameson joined the Victoria Police Department in January 1997 after moving to Texas from Pennsylvania. While on patrol, Captain Jameson served as a Field Training Officer and joined the SWAT team and also became a member of the Honor Guard. In 2001, Captain Jameson transferred to Investigations where he served as a Burglary Detective and joined the Hostage Negotiation Team.
Captain Jameson worked as a School Resource Officer at Memorial High School from 2004 until 2008 before he promoted to Sergeant and was reassigned to Patrol.
As a Patrol Sergeant with 2nd platoon, he helped to lead the platoon in a variety of proactive operations outside the normal duties of patrol; addressing problems areas throughout the city. Captain Jameson also became a member of the VPD Bike Patrol. In 2009, Captain Jameson became the Hostage Negotiations team leader.
In January of 2012, Captain Jameson was transferred to the Special Crimes Unit where he and his team took an aggressive approach towards drug enforcement. He was then promoted to Lieutenant in July 2012. He served as the Lieutenant of VPD Investigations Division and then as the Lieutenant of Support Services Division until August 2014 when he was promoted to Captain. Captain Jameson now oversees the Support Services Division which includes the Recruitment and Training Unit, Records Section and the Telecommunications Section.
Captain Jameson represented the Victoria Police Department by serving on the State Board of Directors of the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) from 2008 until 2012. Captain Jameson is currently enrolled in the Leadership Command College / Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas at Sam Houston University in Huntsville, TX and holds a Master Peace Officer License. In 2016, Captain Jameson graduated from the 264th session of the FBI National Academy.
