Fire Department to Conduct Fire Hydrant Maintenance
(VICTORIA, TEXAS) On Monday, April 10, 2017, the Victoria Fire Department will begin conducting maintenance on fire hydrants throughout the City. This maintenance process will be completed by the end of May 2017.
Maintenance is conducted to maintain public fire hydrants through flushing, inspection, lubricating, cleaning, and painting as recommended by the National Fire Protection Association and reporting needed repairs to the City’s water department. Function checks are performed, while excess water is removed via flushing of the hydrant. Both ensure that the system is in good working order should it be needed in case of emergency.
Residents could experience yellow or rust-colored water in the areas where the hydrant maintenance is being performed but should not be concerned, as it is nothing more than residual sediment in the municipal water system. The discolored water does not pose any health risks. However, it is advisable to run the water until it is clear before using it.
